How we build these rankings
Our rotation outlook, reviewed projections, and fantasy valuation.
Build the rotation and player outlookOur own depth charts, roles, and playing-time expectations.
We build our own rotation projections and depth charts from historical playing time, current rosters, injury information, and reporting on expected roles. We assess who is likely to start, how the bench fits together, and how minutes could shift as players enter or leave the rotation.
For each player, we distinguish opportunity from production: could he play more, take on a different role, or produce more within his minutes? Historical performance, age, and career stage inform that assessment. For rookies, we also consider pre-NBA performance and how their skills and experience fit the opportunity available.
Challenge the projectionsPlayer-by-player checks and team-level human review.
We review projected minutes, games played, and stat lines, then check whether they make sense together as a team. Do workloads fit the rotation? Is a jump in production supported by a change in opportunity? Does the outlook account for known absences and expected returns?
We adjust outputs where they don’t reflect our basketball assessment, then review the implications for teammates and the resulting stat lines. Human review is part of preparing each release.
Turn projected stats into fantasy valueCategory contributions, availability, and your build.
We translate projected stat lines into values across the selected scoring categories, accounting for both contributions and weaknesses. Shooting percentages are considered alongside attempt volume. Assists and turnovers count separately, and scoring alone doesn’t describe a player’s full category profile.
Per-game value measures projected production when a player plays. Full-season value also incorporates expected games played. Changing scoring categories or selecting a punt build can change the valuation and rankings.
Keep the outlook currentDaily monitoring of news, injuries, and rotation changes.
We monitor roster moves, injury updates, and new rotation observations daily. We assess whose minutes or availability could change, whether an opportunity is temporary, and which teammates may be affected.
During the NBA season, rest-of-season projections refresh daily as new game results become available. We assess role changes against the existing outlook and review material forecast changes before publishing. The preseason projection reference stays fixed once the season starts; current availability and ROS updates are separate from that reference.
Projections are estimates, not promises. Daily monitoring does not mean every player’s projection changes every day.
